We're pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for an AMSSM Traveling Fellowship Tour to Italy that will occur Nov. 29-Dec. 13, 2016. AMSSM Founder Dr. John Lombardo has agreed to serve as the AMSSM Senior Traveling Fellow for this tour. Two Junior Fellows who are 10 years or less out of fellowship, have been an AMSSM member for at least the past two years, are board certified in sports medicine and currently practicing in the US or Canada will be selected to join Dr. Lombardo on this tour. Please note: Individuals currently in a sports medicine fellowship at the time of application are not eligible.
The purpose of the AMSSM Traveling Fellowship program is to encourage academic interchange, shared research and exploration of common clinical interests among sports medicine leaders. The experience will include the opportunity to view live patient encounters, tour sports medicine facilities, share cases and spend time with regional experts in sports medicine. The Traveling Fellowship will begin with participation in the Italian Federation of Sports Medicine National Congress in Rome Dec. 1-4, 2016 and a chance to present at that meeting. Visits to sports medicine centers will follow - starting in Rome and concluding in Milan.
AMSSM will provide coach class airfare and lodging for the Traveling Fellowship class, and the Italian hosts will provide meals and transportation within the country. Participants will also receive a daily per diem to help cover any expenses not covered by the hosts. Participants will be encouraged to study and pick up the basics of the Italian language prior to their tour (the grant will provide participants with a Rosetta Stone program or similar language learning tool).
Individuals interested in participating in the Traveling Fellowship should complete the application and submit with required supporting materials by Feb. 22. The AMSSM IIOR Traveling Fellowship Subcommittee will review the applications and make recommendations for final approval by the AMSSM Executive Committee. Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline of Feb. 22 will not be considered.
If questions, please email Jody Gold in the AMSSM office.
The Traveling Fellowship Program is funded from an educational grant provided to the AMSSM Foundation from DJO Global.
